Easter 2026 - Some great ideas for a home photo shoot!

Easter is just around the corner, and if you’re a parent of a tiny human between 3 months and 3 years old, you know the "cute window" is precious and fleeting. As someone who spends a lot of time behind a lens trying to convince toddlers that a wooden bunny is their best friend, I’ve learned that the best shots aren't the ones where everyone is sitting perfectly still. They’re the ones where the light hits just right and the baby is actually having a moment.

Here’s how to pull off a DIY Easter shoot that doesn't feel like a chore.

Setting the Scene (Keep it Simple)

You don’t need a professional studio. In fact, kids usually do better in a space they recognize.

  • The "Rustic Nest": Grab an old wooden crate or a woven laundry basket. Line it with a soft, neutral blanket. Toss in some oversized pastel eggs or a few real carrots (with the green tops still on!). It’s simple, contained, and keeps the "runners" in one spot for at least thirty seconds.

  • Minimalist Bunny: A plain white wall or a light-colored bedsheet works wonders. Tape some paper "bunny ears", eggs and flowers to the wall. It’s cute and whimsical without being cluttered.

Lighting: Your Best Friend (or Worst Enemy)

Forget the flash. It creates harsh shadows and usually scares the younger ones.

  • The Window Trick: Find the biggest window in your house. Set up your scene at a 45-degree angle to it. You want soft, side-lighting that fills in the features without squinting.

  • Cloudy is Good: If you’re shooting outside, a slightly overcast day is actually a photographer’s dream. It acts like a giant softbox, meaning no weird "raccoon eyes" from the sun being overhead.

Taking it Outside

If the weather behaves, get them into the grass.

  • Garden Vibes: A patch of daisies or even just a nice green lawn is a perfect backdrop.

  • The Bubble Distraction: If your 2-year-old is over it, start blowing bubbles. They’ll forget they’re being photographed, their eyes will brighten up, and you’ll get those genuine, "wonder-filled" expressions that look amazing on camera.

What to Wear: 2026 Easter Trends

This season is leaning hard into that "Earthy-Boho" vibe. We’re moving away from those stiff, itchy Sunday suits and toward things kids can actually breathe in.

Trend Why it Works
Layered Tulle Gives that "fairytale" look but keeps it airy. Look for muted tones like dusty rose or sage green.
Floral Embroidery Sweet floral embroidery will add a spring feel to your outfit.
Boho Rompers Light, open rompers in Boho style with ties, fringes, and cotton lace in beige and cream tones are back in fashion.
Airy Silhouettes Flowy dresses and "bubble" rompers are huge this year. They catch the wind beautifully if you’re shooting outdoors.

Pro-Tip: If you’re choosing a tulle dress, make sure it has a cotton lining. There is nothing faster than a "scratchy dress" to end a photo shoot in a meltdown.

Keep it simple

Simple, solid-color muslin rompers will always pair perfectly with Easter decorations. They're comfortable for baby and allow them to move comfortably, creating great photo ops.

One Final Secret...

The best photos usually happen during the "in-between" moments. When they’re trying to eat the prop carrot or staring at a ladybug on their sleeve—that’s the magic. Don't worry about the "cheese" face. Just let them explore.

Happy Easter!
